JOSEPH HEYNS Born 1757, Arrived in 1782 from Wurzburg as sailor on the ship "Dankbaarheid" (meaning gratitude or thankfulness). "The enemy" captured the ship in Saldanhabay and after his release, he obtained permission to stay in the Cape with the VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie) (Dutch East India Company). He became a "burger" (citizen) in 1791 and died on 1818-04-15. He married Dorothea Rosina Arends on 1782-09-22 who was the widow of Roelof Andresen of Halmstad in Sweden.
